Domestic Drinking Water and City Infrastructure

Domestic Drinking Water and City Infrastructure

Tags :

Clean water is essential for a high quality of life throughout the world. In westernized nations, the dependence on domestic water lines and treatment plants to deliver this water shouldn’t be understated. That’s why maintenance on these systems are so important. Without a trusted civil engineering firm providing top-notch service, clean water can become a concern for municipalities. To improve city infrastructure and domestic drinking water capabilities, local governments shouldn’t opt for second-best or cost-cutting measures.

A Quick History of Clean Drinking Water

Drinking water comes from a variety of sources. While some areas rely on lakes, rivers, or reservoirs, others obtain their water from underground aquifers. However, it wasn’t until 1974 that the U.S. government established the Safe Drinking Water Act. This piece of legislation appointed the EPA as an authority over all water purification processes and set the standard of water cleanliness on a national scale.

The Importance of Clean Drinking Water

Clean drinking water is more than just a quick drink out of the faucet. It’s an important facet of everyday life. Everything from cooking to showering requires clean water to prevent the incidence of waterborne illnesses. And although the United States has one of the world’s cleanest water supplies, obstacles still remain to maintain this privilege to the general public.

Water Line Maintenance Concerns in the United States

Maintaining clean water is far more involved than many people realize. According to the Centers for Disease Control, many water pipes and systems—even in urbanized areas—are more than 100 years old. As a result, these systems are more susceptible to cracked or burst pipes and water main breaks that can result in boil orders or contaminated water.

Moreover, the American Water Works Association estimates that repairing existing systems and expanding drinking water systems to reach a sprawling suburban migration will cost up to $1 trillion over the next 25 years.

Using a Trusted Civil Engineering Company to Maintain Domestic Water Lines

As more and more systems require maintenance, municipalities must act quickly to keep their clean water pipes from falling into disrepair. Yet not just any company is up to the task. As a result, local governments must choose a trusted civil engineering company to maintain domestic water lines.

EPS Inc. dba Express Plumbing has years of experience in the industry, an expert staff to get the job done, and a proven track record for water line maintenance, installation, and repair. In addition, we have the proper equipment. This includes separate equipment for working on drinking water lines as opposed to sewer lines to limit the chance of contamination and waterborne illnesses.

Clean drinking water isn’t just a benefit of citizens; it’s something that should be a human right. But even in countries such as the U.S., outdated infrastructure and less experienced companies put this right at risk. Therefore, a reputable civil engineering company is the only true solution to the problems associated with maintenance, installation, and repair of water lines. It may cost a bit more, but the results will speak for themselves. If you’d like to discuss a Bay Area underground construction or civil engineering project with our team, give us a call and we’ll be happy to assist.  No project is too large or too small for our experienced team to handle, we’ll be happy to share our large portfolio of complete project over the past two decades with you

How Municipal Projects Continue During COVID-19

Tags :

Although the COVID-19 pandemic continues to alter the personal and professional lives of people around the globe, many individuals continue to work on essential jobs. One of the jobs that continue as scheduled deals with municipal sewer and pipe projects. These particular projects are vital during the COVID-19 pandemic as the strain to existing infrastructure increases and more people are forced to stay at home.

Yet despite this heightened demand, workers continue to tackle projects for the convenience and betterment of citizens. Here is how our professionals brave conditions to bring people the sewer and water services they need.

Basic Safety Protocols and Precautions

Although some contractors and builders have deemed their businesses nonessential, municipal projects are an integral service. That’s why many jurisdictions are continuing their projects as scheduled. Even as these water and sewer projects continue, companies, governments, and contractors are putting specific safety protocols and precautions on work.

EPS Engineering considers safety a top priority for both our employees and the community. We follow all guidelines by the CDC and have protocols in place to continue serving our community safely.

On March 25, 2020, the Construction Industry Safety Coalition (CISC)—a group of 25 trade associations—released safety guidelines to protect employees and workers as they continued to fix or install sewer and water lines. In addition to masks and other personal protective equipment, the protocols also outline other tips, including:

  • Disinfecting and cleaning surfaces.
  • Work practices to ensure cleanliness and minimize the spread of disease.
  • How to handle potential illnesses on the job site.
  • Social distancing

Using these guidelines, municipal job sites can remain secure and free from the dangers of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Constant Assessment of Job Sites

To secure the job site, foremen and supervisors should constantly assess job sites. Not only should this include a thorough daily inspection of the site, but also making sure that workers follow the guidelines laid out by the CISC.

Social distancing should also be enforced throughout the workday, and discussions or disciplinary action handed out to workers who disobey these rules.

How COVID-19 Is Affecting Municipal Projects

Despite some companies continuing their projects and efforts during COVID-19, certain aspects of the business continue to suffer. According to one survey of the Associated General Contractors of America, 28% of companies reported that the government or a local agency had prevented them from bidding on or completing work. In addition, 22% discussed the lack of material because of a supplier cancellation, as well as up to 20% of projects cancelled or delayed for at least 30 days.

The long-term effects on municipal projects may not be recognized until after these stay-at-home directives are lifted. But our technicians, engineers, and plumbers continue to follow strict safety guidelines to ensure that our local community has the services they need.

Although “essential” is a loose definition, our workers and company repairs and builds sewer and water infrastructure and we continue to improve the lives of others during this time of uncertainty.

Our essential services are what continue to make this time less difficult, while also ensuring the integrity of infrastructure for the foreseeable future.

From our entire team at EPS Inc. We are here for our Bay Area community and remind everyone to keep hope alive as we navigate through this pandemic.

What is Underground Utility Construction?  EPS Explains

Tags :

EPS Inc dba Express Plumbing provides underground utility construction and maintenance in and around the Bay Area.  Our underground utility division is considered a one-stop-shop that eliminates the need for hiring multiple contractors.

Underground Utility Construction Explained

Underground construction has been around for years, from underground tunnels, to earth shelters, it’s nothing new.  However underground utility construction relates to cables, tunnels, and pipes underground that require replacement, repair, or new installations.

Major underground pipelines may involve utility power lines, communication lines, water, and sewer.  EPS Inc specializes in installing, repairing and maintaining these underground lines quickly and efficiently using advanced equipment and techniques.

Underground line mapping allows us to identify possible buried cable and pipe under the ground.  Our engineering services are relied upon by municipalities, developers, and other industries to relocate the pipes, install new sewer systems or water systems, run power or telecommunication cables, all below the ground we walk on.

We are also the Bay Area’s underground emergency response team.  The EPS team works on emergency water breaks and sewer stoppages no matter when they happen.  We operate 24/7 including holidays and weekends to resolve any underground system deficiencies.

Underground Utility Solutions with EPS

Our motto at EPS is simple, there are no problems, only solutions.  Our engineering capabilities, advanced equipment, coupled with years of experience in providing underground utility construction services for the commercial, residential and municipal sector means you only deal with us as your underground utility contractor, not multiple entities.

OSHA Trained Underground Utility Crew

We only hire the most experienced, reliable, and competent crew the industry has to offer.

Our underground utility crew provides maintenance support and new installations for water systems, sewer systems, telecommunication, power, and more.

Safety is always our top priority and every project we take not only meets but exceeds the most stringent requirements.

Since 1989, we’ve been providing underground utility construction solutions that are reliable, accurate, and efficient.  Our completed underground utility projects in the Bay Area speak for themselves.
